Mental Nutrition: More Than Food Enters Your Body
Do you practice “Mental Nutrition?” In other words, do you take as much care for what you allow into your mind as you do for what you put into your body? What do you listen to? watch? pay attention to? What sounds enter your awareness?
Enhance mental nutrition through the Sounds and Sights you Surround yourself with. Minimize and protect yourself from disturbing noises, for example; select information that adds to your self-care; choose to listen to sounds that make you feel good. Do your everyday choices nourish or deplete you? What TV shows do you select? What news or emails do you ingest as you start your morning? Do the conversations you engage in fill or empty your mind? Do you turn on music that assaults or uplifts?
Relative to music, as Dr. Andrew Weil, author of “Spontaneous Happiness” and many other bestsellers puts it, “music has a direct and powerful influence on the nervous system and on our emotions. It powerfully affects the brain and mind. Music can make us calm and excited, can stir us to action, or paralyze us with fear.”
